You may want to have chicken for your consumption or simply as pets. They are really good in cleaning up your garden to get rid of insects and unwanted rubbish. If you are planning on getting some chicken, building a chicken coop is your first step.

They can be built with many materials including wood which is very popular. You need a drawing of the coop to get an idea of what you are doing.

A coop for the chicken is its home to sleep, eat and play. It’s should be healthy and safe. They lay their eggs and make chicks in it. The land around the coop also becomes a part of their boundary eventually.

The size of the coop is determined by the number of chicken you intend to have. It is advisable to keep a margin of about 4 square feet for each chicken. Once you have a drawing of the coop, select the material to be cut into the various parts.

Once the pieces are cut into the parts, you can then begin putting them together. You will have to put the frames, rails, handles, door and perching block together into one piece.

How to Construct a Chicken Coop. Do not forget the nesting perch, flooring and roof underlay. The coop should be function able in any climatic condition. You will also need nails, hinges and screws to finish the job. The chicken wire should be the last thing to do.
There should be good ventilation and lighting. You can even buy the basic frames and just build the rest. It should also have a place for the water.

Always check with your local council before you begin making a coop or buy your chicks. Building a chicken coop which will love is a big challenge. If you achieve this, your coop is a big hit.
